Investigators in Lake County are asking for help as they investigate a shooting at an internet gaming establishment on Highway 19 near Umatilla, a shooting that put an armed security guard in the hospital.
"Someone’s shot," a 911 caller said.
A worker at Hot Spot called 911 reporting the violence that had just happened at the internet gaming location on Highway 19 south of Umatilla.
"I was counting money here at the game room where I work. The security guard — I heard somebody come in, they fired two shots — the guard is down," a 911 caller said.
"We received a call of shots fired from what is known as Hot Spot internet gaming casino. When we responded there, we found that the security guard had been shot," Lt. Fred Jones with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
It all happened about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening and the sheriff's office said the injured guard is still undergoing treatment.
"It was scary, like my life just flashed in front of me," Patricia Bostic, a nearby resident said.
Bostic says her grandson witnessed part of the incident.
"My grandson was stepping out the door and he heard a pow, pow and he said, 'Grandma, grandma, I see a man with a mask on,'" Bostic said.
"Somebody tried to rob the place," a 911 caller said.
"I heard the gunshots and when I came outside. I saw some guys running to a truck and take off," Lynn said.
Living near the Hot Spot, a woman who didn't want to give her full name said she spoke with someone who was inside when it happened.
"They said it was two people, and as soon as the door opened, the guy put his hand in with the gun 'cause the girl said she tried to swipe the gun down," Lynn said.
"It appeared they may have come in with their gun drawn and they shot, we're not sure if he got a shot off or what happened with that," Jones said.
"She said he shot the security guard sitting there, shot the security guard then took off running outside the building, never even made it inside the building," Lynn said.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information that can help them identify the suspects to reach out either to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
