RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Multiple first pitches were tossed out at Volunteer Stadium to mark the beginning of the 75th Little League World Series on Wednesday. This year includes four new regions which expands the tournament to 20 teams.
After two years, Little League International is welcoming back its fans in full capacity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Little League Baseball World Series through Aug. 28.
To ensure the best safety and security of hundreds of thousands of visitors and the hundreds of players and volunteers at the series, Little League International has implemented a new gate and clear bag policy.
All visitors looking to access the Little League complex will be required to enter through Gate 3, the main entrance located at the left-field line of Volunteer Stadium along Champions Way.
All other gate locations will be for credentialed personnel only.
Starting with this series, Little League International has implemented a new bag policy, one to expedite entry into the complex, increase safety standards at the event, and provide visitors with the best possible experience during their time in South Williamsport and Williamsport, officials said.
As part of this policy, fans will be only permitted to bring in one clear bag made of plastic, vinyl, or PVC that does not exceed 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches, and one small purse or bag that does not exceed 6.5 inches x 4.5 inches.
Visitors with medically necessary bags or diaper bags will be permitted, but subject to a thorough bag search at a separate, dedicated screening line. People with diaper bags must be accompanied by a child under age 3.
Before making the trip to Williamsport, however, it is important that fans are aware of some of the key security and visitation policies, including a new bag policy and updates to gate access areas.
“We are thrilled to bring back our amazing fans from all over the world this year as we come to celebrate 75 years of this great event, and we want to make sure that the fan experience is as enjoyable and safe as possible,” said Patrick W. Wilson, Little League International chief operating officer and tournament director.
“In order to ensure that fans have the fastest entry into our complex and enjoy every moment of their experience at our event this summer, we encourage all visitors to be aware of the policies and information prior to arriving at our gates. We look forward to welcoming you all back to Williamsport, and hope you enjoy this year’s celebration with us.”
