An employee was arrested on a charge of grand theft this past week after his employer viewed a company security video showing him taking home $10,000 worth of vinyl fencing materials.
The video showed 34-year-old Dustin Hommes of Eustis, loading the materials into his truck from stock kept at Superior Fence & Rail, located at 307 East North Blvd. in Leesburg.
The video was shot on July 5, after management left for the day, but Hommes was still on the clock, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Leesburg Police Department in support of the arrest warrant.
Hommes had agreed to purchase $2,415.50 of B&R brand vinyl fence material, but took Homeland vinyl material worth approximately $10,000. He promised to return materials when contacted by his employer. When it was eventually recovered, much of the material had been damaged.
When he was contacted by the detective investigating the theft, Hommes admitted to taking the items from his employer. Hommes was placed under arrest and was booked at the Lake County Jail with bond set at $2,000.
Superior Fence & Rail has 23 locations in Florida, Tennessee and North Carolina. The company offers a wide variety of aluminum, vinyl, wood and chainlink fences. It is one of the country’s largest vinyl fence wholesalers.
