When you want a three-row SUV, you have many options. That field narrows to only a few rides when you need maximum space in your mid-size SUV.

The Kia Telluride provides plenty of room as one of the larger mid-size SUVs in its class. Unlike some other mid-size rides, you can use all three rows, and even adults can sit all the way back without much hassle.

There has not been much change inside the Kia for 2022. That large 10.2-inch center touch screen is standard on all trim levels, not just the top SX trim level. When you choose the SX trim level and add the Prestige package, you can add Nappa leather seat trim for a more premium feel than most of the SUVs in this class.

This big Kia also will get noticed. The Telluride has a premium look that has some people thinking it’s the high-dollar Range Rover from afar. The refreshed front grille, new KIA badge and slim LED headlight clusters grab your eye. Handsome 20-inch wheels are showcased nicely in the bulging fenders that give the Telluride a tougher SUV stance and a less carlike crossover appearance.

Usually, the bigger the SUV, the more cumbersome the handling. That is not the case with the Telluride. It has a more stable ride in the corners with less body roll than you would expect from a larger SUV. I found that it was a smooth operator on most road surfaces, only the rougher and more broken pavement briefly upset its tranquility.

The V6 provided ample power to move the big Kia with authority. The eight-speed automatic was smooth and did its best to select the higher gear for fuel economy. The optional tow package also adds a self-leveling suspension, which helps when you tow up to 5000 lbs.

Cost: $36,590; as tested $38,205 MPG: 19 MPG City; 24 MPG Highway. I managed 21.2 MPG in 306 miles of mixed driving. Options: $795 towing package; $2,300 SX prestige package; $210 carpeted floor mats; $115 carpeted cargo mat; $1,225 inland freight and handling Safety: blind spot collision avoidance assist-pedestrian; rear cross traffic collision-avoidance assist; enhanced forward collision avoidance-assist, cyclist & junction turning; vehicle stability management; safe exit assist with power child lock; smart cruise with stop-go; parking collision avoidance-rear, parking distance warning reverse; lane keeping assist & lane following assist.

Things to know: The KIA Telluride is still at the top of the three-row SUV/crossover market for a reason. With its size, a premium feel and a very competitive price, the Telluride will stay at the head of its class.
